Stan,
Actually I'm after a brief description of each system process,
such as
a description of LOAD, DSDAD, etc. That way when I see them show up
in
SOS/3000 I'll have a better idea what the system overhead is doing
for me
and why it's there.
Thanx,

Hi,
Jon write (last week?):

There is no one "list of system processes", as they can and do vary
from machine to machine, even from bootup to bootup.
The only "hard coded" PINs (Process Identification Numbers) that
I can find are:
PM_PROGEN_PIN $1
"PROGEN" is the parent/ancestor of all processes.
PM_LOADER_PIN $2
PM_CLEANUP_PIN aka PM_KILLER_PIN $3
PM_FIRST_PFP_PIN $4
However, since at least MPE XL 3.0, there are a few more "PIN to
process
name" mappings that you can generally count on, even though they
aren't
hard coded in the operating system...PINs 5 through 10.
(I seem to recall that there were fewer than 4 port facility
processes
at some point, maybe pre-3.0).
<plug> SHOT, from Lund Performance Solutions, provides the names of
these
processes.
</plug>
On my 5.0 system, here are the first 19 processes...
