Very true.
Internet Information Server contains an FTP server. This service must be
(1) installed and (2) running.
The next thing to look at is file system security. If the disk is formatted
FAT, then you will not get very strong security (and if using anonymous, who
cares anyway, I guess). It is strongly recommended though, that if the
server is exposed to the Internet in any way, use NTFS. In this way, you
can assign security to directories including Web Access.
If you are using IIS 4.0, then you also installed the NT Options Pack, which
gives you very fine control over how FTP directories (and web directories as
well) are configured including IP address, users who can access, Anonymous
access, etc. Look under Start/Programs/Windows NT 4.0 Options Pack/Internet
Information Server/Internet Service Manager. This is where it's all done :)
The docs are also online for reference. (This is not meant as a tutorial :)
Cheers,
Joe
