Has GNU cvs already been mentioned in this thread? Available from
Jazz (free of charge and not officially supported). Works nicely
for what I have used it so far. Even doing checkout/checkin across
a network (eg the Interex shared source cvs repository or Jazz).

If you convert your sources to bytestream format, you should be
able to use CVS for the revision control, version diff's etc, as
well as Samba to allow PC editing on the source files (eg using
the free PFE editor, or UltraEdit, or TextPad, or ...)
