Just recently I read the Navy performed some experiments irradiating chimps.
They took out stem-cells from the bone marrow of the chimps and gave them a
lethal dose of radiation which killed the bone marrow.  They cultured more
bone marrow cells from the stem-cells and reintroduced them back into the
chimps.  They were alive a year later.  I like happy endings...
