You can blame me for re-opening this topic. Perhaps I missed something, but I didn't see Wirt take credit for a correct prediction.
Not that I want to protract this thread, but I fail to see how your examples prove anything about Christie Whitman. One shows something about Europe (well, I suppose if you can't meet your lofty goals, why bother having them in the first place, right?) and the other shows something about Belgium.

Actually Wirt's prediction was way off, as is the case with most of his predictions. The prediction he made was that she would
resign by June of 2001. This did not happen. Even if one allowed for the 9/11 events to muddy the waters, so to speak, Christie
Whitman should have resigned several months before these events took place.
So, for Wirt to predict Christie Whitman would be gone by June of 2001 and watch her leave 2 years later does not prove that Wirt
predicted correctly. Any ninny could see that CW was not really suited for W's cabinet and that he took her on because she was a
moderate. CW was not and is not a conservative and that's why in the aftermath of the Florida debacle, W took her on, and placed
her in an unimportant position where she promptly screwed up.
Now Wirt takes credit for a prediction that is 2 years late (a time overrun of 800%) and believes she left on her own volition. I
would say that she was probably eased out of the cabinet just like a few others were a few months ago. That would make Wirt's
prediction insanely late and incorrect as to the cause just like his Enron prediction. Whilst Enron did fail, it was not due to the
causes Wirt had predicted would cause Enron trouble.
Here is a prediction, Wirt style. The stock market will reach 10,000 again in 9 months. Now, if it gets there within 6 years, I
will be as accurate as Wirt is now.
FYI, two environment items have come to light in the last few weeks, which further highlight CW's uselessness.
1- Europe is nowhere near meeting its obligation on the Kyoto farce. http://www.obv.org.uk/europe/eu20030507a.html (I saw other
more complete articles a few weeks ago, but a quick search with Google brought this one directly.)
2- Belgium, the seat of all things Euro, just got the worst possible grade in terms of water quality. Belgium has the worst water
in the world, worse than China, Mexico, India and the African continent. The US came in at number 12, out of 122. Read more about

In the meantime, the air quality in Houston has suffered for the last few weeks, but it is because of the "agricultural fires"
burning south of the border, bringing us this nice pollution. I think Mexico is exempt from Kyoto, proving once again how flawed
that accord was.

As I wrote earlier, Whitman has demonstrated a much higher tolerance for
abuse than I ever would have if I were her -- or imagined that she would have
either.
