Subject: FW: HP3000 Population

I am attempting to estimate the HP3000 population.

I have been retained to prepare a report commenting on certain aspects
of the
computer industry. One portion of the report requires me to assess the
size
of the HP3000 market. In order to do this I am seeking your assistance
with
the questions outlined below.

My client is a subscriber to the HP3000 mailing list, but I am not a
subscriber. Please respond to my e-mail address ([log in to unmask]).

Questions

1) How many HP3000(MPE) systems do you believe currently exist in the
world?

2) How many HP3000(MPE) systems do you believe existed in 1986?

3) How many HP3000(UX) systems do you believe currently exist in the
world?

4) How many HP3000(UX) systems do you believe existed in 1986?

5) Is it fair to assume that at some point during the life of the above
machines that one of the operators (assuming some machines served
several
functions for one or more companies) would have been interested in
purchasing a performance monitoring system? If no, indicate what
percentage
of the HP3000 systems in existence would have, at some point in time,
been in
the market for a performance monitoring system.

6) Are you aware of any sources of information to support the number of
HP3000 systems in existence? If so, please provide us with the names or
any
other information which would help us locate them.

7) If you have time please estimate the number of HP3000 (MPE) and
HP3000
(UX) systems in existence at the end of: 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990,
1991,
1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997.

8) What is the source of your information? (e.g.. General Industry
Experience, Statistical Reports, Direct Knowledge of HP production etc.)

Thank you in advance for your cooperation,

Jeff Norman
