Yes, you can replace the XSORT with SUPRTOOL (it's been about 600 years since I coded any RPG XSORT specs).  The syntax for SUPRTOOL is fairly easy to learn, and you do have conditional selection of records based upon actual fields and/or fields that can be created from data in the record.

The main issue you may run into is that, often time, you will need to do more than one pass through the file's data using SUPRTOOL...(you create an initial extract of records from the file, and then process the extracted file one or more times until you get the data/records you desire).
