Yes, you can have COBOL do this...of course, I would suggest you do this in
the JCL (or CMD file if running on-line).  To do it, you need to set the
parms in your ASSIGN clause to the values you need.

SELECT BINFILE ASSIGN TO "BINFILE,,B"

Where 'B' denotes that you want the file to be binary.  This is in the
manual on page 6-35 (if you have a COBOL manual that's as old as mine), and
you can also find this info at:
