Revolutionaries have a tendency to go around in circles, hence the name.

I favor evolution, I have always believed the past is important. You know
the old saying, if you ignore history, you are bound to repeat it. Or
words to that effect.

One breaks with one's past when one has no past of which to be proud.
Whilst Interex's history is colorful and varied, it is still something of
which we should be proud. We are coming up on the quarter century mark
very quickly, and yet-another-name-change is not what I would characterize
as an action designed to underline longevity of purpose.

When the conference name was changed to HP World, I recommended we
advertise it as: Interex Presents. . . HP World. Whilst we could change
the name of the conference, (it is just an event), the name of the
association needed to be tied to it lest HP World become just another new
conference with no history or track record. There are so many new
conferences nowadays, that come and go, it is very difficult to keep track
of them or even to know which ones have any track record.

Another point is that Interex is more than just HP 3000 users, it also
encompasses HP 1000, HP 9000 and NT users, in short, anyone using an HP
computer.

Therefore, I vote we keep the name as is, bring these proceedings to an end
and donate the prize money to the children's hospital in Houston.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Continuity? We need to break with the past. We are revolutionaries, after
all, always looking for all kinds of NEW ways to improve the usefulness of
the HP3000 as a world-class online-transaction processor.

(Note, before Denys jumps on me: Some of these new ways involve
connectivity issues with other operating systems whose forte is not
necessarily "reliable raw-power OLTP that economically allows non-guru
customers to serve hundreds or thousands of concurrent users with minimal
headaches".)
