We here use the WARNF command via VESOFT software.  We were unable to find anything that would send messages to a terminal/session in block mode but the WARNF command.  

AS much as HP uses BLOCK mode screens, you would think that HP would instroduce a command similar to the WARNF comman.

Maybe this should be submitted to HP.
