The dialing string complete with the MCI 1-800 number, my account and
"secret code" along with the number that I want to dial came up to 35
characters without any pauses. That must be too many for my old 2400 modem.

The semi-colon tip worked though (thanks Bruce). I set up 3 RCL files, 1 to
dial the MCI 1-800 number, 1 to send my account number and "secret code"
when MCI gives me its chime, and 1 to send to phone number that I want to
dial. The first 2 RCL ATDT commands have the semi-colon at the end of the
string.

Thanks to all that replied. I can go on vacation now knowing that I can get
in touch with the HP if needed.
