Thanks, Wirt, and others who wrote to correct me.
I still find it hard to believe Scott Simon would have made such an error.
But in light of my own mistake, I publicly offer my apologies to Mr. Simon.
I'm glad to know he wasn't deliberately twisting the facts, since as I said,
he's no slouch.
I stand by my view, however, that reporters have an absolute duty to get
their facts straight. Just look at all the trouble getting one fact wrong
caused!! Error leads to more error -- garbage in, garbage out, as we say.
