Did I miss somthing, or did this child'd parent show up at school and not
deal with their child?

When we expect the school to deal with all our children's problems, we only
make things worse. I have witnessed parents whose attitude was "my child
would never do such a thing". I have also witnessed parents who hold the
teacher responsible.

Personnally, when the school calls, I endorse them %100. Therefore, when my
son got into a fight at school they called me, not the police. He did have
to meet with the school police officer, but only to be warned. He therefore
got 1 week of suspension (which in my house means no TV, video games etc.)
and I walked him over to the parents of the other child and introduced them
so he knew their family.

Since then, my son has made friends with this boy, has sworn off fighting,
and is now Student Body President. Of course I'm vary proud ;-)

My experience is we have disempowered the schools and now we complain that
they are over the edge. No Craig, we don't need to through out the baby with
the bath water, we need to be more involved in our children's lives and not
give them excuses for their behavior.

Dave
