It indeed makes sense to spread a database, particularly large, multi-user
databases, across volumes. This will help distribute the I/O more evenly
across the available bandwidth, helping in overall I/O performance/throughput.

You might consider using our Disc Space Manager product, which works in
conjunction with MPE/iX's Transaction Manager (XM) to manage disc storage
and eliminates this type of system reload. One of its primary features is
managing the layout of files on the volumes (discs) of a volume set. It is
much
faster than a reload and can also work on-line to manage unopened files
without requiring system downtime for all users. Call us @ 800/621-2808 for a
free demo!
