This is kind of brain dead - how about relating it to electrical wiring with
the various ancillary "boxes" that enable access to the power.  By that I
mean, I suspect everyone will follow the fact that to get electricity into a
house you need the wires,  the outlets and the power panel. A network
infrastructure has some similarities.

Hi Everyone :)
    I need help with finding an alternative to the word 'infrastructure'
and/or 'network infrastructure'.  The audience will be healthcare
'C-levels'.  I am told by my editors that 'infrastructure' and 'network
infrastructure' are too technical.
