Tracy,
On a simple network (like ours), there are basically three steps:
1. Configure a TCP/IP address on the printer.
2. On the HP 3000, edit (or create) the NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS file. If you're creating your first printer, I believe they have a sample file. Look for [log in to unmask] (I think). Be sure to not place any spaces prior to the device number.
3. Then, use IOCONFIG utility, and add the device, for example:
AD 81 PATH=NONE ID=HPTCPJD
When you're done with these steps, you just basically have to set your OUTFENCE, HEADOFF/HEADON, etc., and you're ready to print. No shutdown should be necessary.

Wish I had saved the threads on how do you set up Network Printers with
the Jet Direct card...
I got an LJ4si with a JetDirect card on the LAN and and HP3000 with MPE/iX
5.5 ... where do I start?
