Jeff asks:

The small Power Trust units were standard with 9x8 boxes (unless you deleted
it from the order), so this is a common configuration.

For small values of "smooth". When the batteries get low the UPS signals
the system which immediately generates a System Abort. I believe the sole
goal is for there to be no I/O in flight at the instant the power actually
drops, which the System Abort guarantees quite well, if rather abruptly.

Not that I'm aware of. Most of the small Power Truss (well, it's what I've
always called them too) units don't have too much exposed intelligence, or
if there's a way to get at it I don't know what it is.
