Hi everyone,
In the course of my reading I occasionally come across a pertinent
article that I would like to share with the listserv. The following was
written by Bob Lewis as the author of the "CTO Survival Guide" column in the
September 16, 2002 edition of InfoWorld on page page 50 of the printed
version. The online version is
http://www.infoworld.com/articles/op/xml/02/09/16/020916opsurvival.xml

A paragraph from the article:

"The problem is, the "shareholder value" strategy is an obvious loser.
Imagine your company focuses on shareholder value. Meanwhile, competitors
focus on designing and building the best products in the marketplace or on
taking care of their customers better than anyone else."

The key part of the sentence is "taking care of their customers better
than anyone else". This is where the current HP corporate stance is going to
be their downfall with regard to the handling of MPE/iX and future
technology offerings. HP has reserved the right, after selling you and/or
your customers hundreds of thousands and/or millions of dollars of
hardware/software, to declare your investment and your customer's null and
void, or at the very least mandate that you and your customers will spend
hundreds of thousands and/or millions of dollars to migrate. Hp corporate
has not indicated this is the last time this will happen.

HP corporate needs to release MPE/iX to a responsible entity before all
integrity on their part is lost. I hope HP corporate takes the opportunity
of this year's HPWorld to announce just such an arrangement.

             Thank you...
