This reminds me,

Robert,

Have you tried FTP in Passive mode?

It could be an issue of port that FTP comes through. I believe the port
number is 21. If the firewall is sensitive to the FTP port, you may not get
in. At the same time, you can still ping the device as much as you want.

Hope this helps.

Craig,

He has a hardware firewall between his ftp box and his ISP which does not
show on the PC's tracert listing.

He says that his other suppliers have no problem with connecting to his box.

Robert,

The ability of the router to respond to a TRACERT request is programable. A
lot of people disable this "feature" for security reasons.

The fact that you can ping the box shows that you are getting a physical
path.

I would guess if you can get to other sites, then the issue is with this
site in particular. Can anyone else FTP to them?

Greetings to the -L,

We have a batch process that connects to about 20 sites to pickup order
files and drop response and stock files. This has worked with no problems
for ages.

A couple of weeks ago we started getting FTPERR 9 (Cannot connect to host)
about 5 seconds after trying to OPEN the connection to one of the sites. The
customer says that he sees us connect and then we drop the connection
immediately. We have made no changes and the customer says that he has not
made any either. The other 19 sites we connect to are still working without
any problems. The customer says that the other supplies who connect to his
ftp box are still working fine.

I have tried to ping his box and all is ok. I then tried tracert
(prvxl.telesup) specifying a max 30 hops. Everything was ok until it reached
the 11 hop when it displayed '* * *' in stead of the address.

I then tried to ftp the customer from my desktop PC (as it leaves our
network via the same gateway address as the HP3000). This also failed with a
'connect :Connection reset by peer' message. Pinging his box from the PC
completed ok. Tracert from the PC completed in 11 hops. If followed exactly
the same route, and number of hops, as the HP3000 but displayed the
customers address in the 11th hop.

We use different ISP's and I was wondering if it is something that one of
them may have done that is causing this?

The only other thing I can say is H E L P ! !
