A few years ago, my previous employer purchased a tape drive that reads
3480 cartridges and was rack-mounted in the HP 9000 cabinet. It was a
pretty nice unit, with an autochanger that could stack about 8 or 10 tapes.
We bought it from StorageTek for about $20,000. If you're interested,
email me and I'll put you in touch with someone from my old company who can
give you more information. (Who knows, now that they've gotten rid of
their IBM mainframes, they might even be willing to sell the drive.)

Subject: IBM 3480/90 tape media in an HP environment

Is anyone reading from or writing to the old IBM 3480 or 3490 tape media
with their HP 3000 or 9000 system? If so, what kind of a tape drive are
you using? I'm trying to help someone do this, as they just acquired a
client who submits data on this media.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
