Ah how ironic could the timing be. Today is the last official day on my
largest and only remaining HP3000 contract.

Though I must admit for me it was not so much the demise of the HP3000 as
changing market conditions if the forestry and paper products sectors.

Ah well, one changes with the times. I'm leveraging off my project
management skills as much as the technical side. Plus having some fun with
other talents.

So let's see what I have come up with during the two week notice I was
given:
- A couple of web site development contracts.
- Two commissions for stained glass windows and working on a bunch of "spec"
stained glass pieces for sale in our art gallery next summer.
- Tech support for our local ISP.
- A good chance of landing the project management position to bring the
Victoria Symphony Orchestra to Texada Island to play in one of the Quarries
here.
- A decent chance of landing a government grant for developing a Texada
Island Jazz and Blues festival.

Truth be told, after the first two days of panic when I received my 2 week
notice on the HP3000 contract, I am now feeling a heck of a lot happier and
less stressed than I have in years.

(Though if anyone hears of an HP3000 opportunity I would still love to know
about it :-) )

For those of you looking for a great place to go on vacation: British
Columbia is going to be one heck of a place to come to over the next
several years as we head up to 2010 and the Winter Olympics in Whistler BC.

If I have anything to do with it, Texada Island is going to be right up
there with the best places to visit. The greatest events. Great places to
stay. Scenery to knock your socks off. Soon to have what we all think is
likely to be a world class restaurant. And of course one of the best
independent art galleries on the coast: Holtenwood Gallery.

For those of you who do not know what this area has to offer, here are a few
links. Texada Island is part of the Powell River Regional District and
although these mostly say the name Powell River, Texada is definitely part
of it. (watch the wrap in all cases)

Powell River Region declared a cultural capital of Canada:

Powell River now the new summer home of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and
the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific:

The international choral festival and competition: Kathaumixw

If you come to Powell River, make sure you leave time to come over on the
ferry to visit Texada Island and of course the Holtenwood Gallery.

Good luck. I'm not signing off the HP3000 list quite yet. Through at least
the end of the year I think I will want to keep listening to all your
religious and war ideological bickering :-)

So, what are you doing on this 2 year anniversary
of the fateful day of the HP 11/14/2001 announcement?
