The bottom line is that we have to act according to our own principles
and interests.
Sometimes that means going against some governments or cliques. We (the
USA) are
the policemen of the world because of our power (economic and military)
whether
we like it or not.  Sometimes a policeman turns his back on an action
sometimes he
reacts.  We influence by just being what we are.  We have to stamp out
terrorism
even if it will spring up again (you clean your house even if it will
get dirty again).

This applies even if the acts are done in the name of religion.  I will
not accept or
condone such acts as female circumcision  or stoning even if  the
perpetrators
claim a religious motivation!
