Bill Gates our only hope? Roh roh, Raggy, gotta put in my .02 cents here:
<soapbox>
The Federal (?) government will regulate the software industry as long as we remain complacent and accept this as being inevitable and unavoidable, if you'll pardon the redundancy. As has been demonstrated before in the Clipper Chip and COPA debacles, we can still raise enough of a stink to hamstring their plans, temporarily. But winning a battle down't win a war; they'll be back again, with a different battle plan than the last. Eternal vigilance will be required to keep the government's mitts off the software and internet industries, strangulating them with regulations galore.

>You guys are all missing the point. The Federal government has now stepped in
>and will regulate the computer software industry. We will come to rue Friday,
>5 November 1999. It will become known as Black Friday in the IT industry.
>This is what this whole thing is about. Government control of software
>development. Our only hope now is that Bill Gates will have the fortitude to
>see this through, all the way to the Supreme Court if need be, and that in the
>end this judgment gets overturned. Another reason why the upcoming 2000
>election is going to be very important.
