The reader calls fcontrol 45, but only if ffileinfo reports no writers. The
writer does not call fcontrol.

I think what you are looking for is FCONTROL 45. However, the default
behavior is supposed to return EOF when the file is full, so you must have
already set FCONTROL 45 earlier in the program.
