If anyone remembers Marvin Rish, I just found out he
passed away last year.
His career was varied, some here may have crossed his path.
Enlisted in the Navy during the 1950s,* got a commission.
he was present in the bunkers during the live nuclear
tests. Just managed to be in the correct area when
something went hot and everyone else was exposed. All
his friends from that period died early.
He said he was one of the few qualified to disarm the
old nukes. They didn't debrief him until the mid 1990s,
the DoE being what it is (or was it the USN?)
He had a two-digit membership number at the Magic Castle
in Hollywood and could always get you in to the private
magic shows.
And had an IBM/360 in his garage and was an MRP guru.
If you've ever seen a US Robotics Sportster external
modem, he designed the outer casing and produced the
first article.
At least those were his claims. The Magic Castle story
I can verify because he took me there.
