FCOPY is very slow as it runs in compatability mode.
Usually the program is OCTCOMP'd so it will run faster
(but still not as fast as a native mode program.)
If you upgraded is is very possible that the program has reverted
to normal old compatability mode.
The question is what are you using it for, and can some other program
or command be used instead? Often it is used for things that the regular
COPY command will do much faster. I have sometimes resorted to writing
a small Cobol program to do the task faster. If you have Suprtool then it is
much, much faster at most things.
I used fcopy on our HP939/020 to copy this file, and it took less than
a minute (sorry, didn't have a stopwatch.) If you records are thousands
of bytes long it would take longer, or if you have a much slower machine
it could take lots longer. Still, hours is too long for any 100,000 record
file.

Subject: [HP3000-L] MPEix 6.5 question
Hi all,
We have upgraded from 6.0 to 6.5 about 3 month ago. Ever sent then I
have noticed that fcopy takes a vary long long time. This is also true
in MPE altfile command. Fcopy on a 100,000 record file used to take
less then 5 minutes, now it can takes over 3 hours. Has anybody else
noticed this? Is there a problem with FCOPY?
