We are experiencing slowwwwww FTP speeds between our HP3000 (987SX, MPE/iX
5.5 pp6) and some NT machines, and I'm wondering if others have seen this
and what, if anything, can be done to speed it up.

The PC I use is an NT workstation (v4), and I get >770 Kb/sec speeds when
FTPing from the 987. One of the "problem" NT machines is an NT server, v4
service pack 4, and it's getting approx. 2Kb/sec as a remote, and about
6Kb/sec as a client. The second "problem" NT machine is an NT workstation,
and it gets about 40Kb/sec as a client. (Second machine was not tested as a
remote, so I have no performance figures.)

We get blazing performance when we FTP between our two HPs (987 and 969),
and excellent speeds when FTPing between the HPs and our Sun-Solaris
machines. But for some reason the NT transfers to/from the HP go into
tortoise mode.

When we test these "problem" machines with the Sun machines, the speeds are
better, but nothing to write home about. And when we test the two NT
machines with each other, the FTP speeds are slower yet, though not as slow
at the HP-NT connection.

Is there something inherently slow in NT re: FTP? Is there some "secret"
setting which speeds things up? We're at a loss.

Any help would be much appreciated.
