I'll warn you in advance this is a bit brutal and prefix everything with
IMO:

I am amazed that in the 21st century we are having this discussion. Surely
most religions should have died out by along with the idea's of witchcraft
and wizards. If people want to believe in a God, then fine, of course there
could have been a God or many Gods, there might still be, but no one living
knows and will probably ever know, so it's pretty much a belief for the sake
of believing.

My basic problem with the Christian religion and in fact most religions, is
the dogma and social pressure it puts on people. If people want to believe
in something, to which they have no proof, ok it's a bit silly, but if it
helps you through life, then it can't be all bad, but when people start to
judge others or prevent other from living their life, then it is wrong.

The Bible, to which most Christian and some Jewish beliefs are based, was
created, by whom, not a God, but by man. It was assembled, translated,
edited and copied over vast periods of time, there are even many versions.
How can people live their life by this, commit crimes in the name of it,
dedicate crusades to it, when it's just a work of fiction.

Surely when comparing Science to religion it's pointless, science is a fair
and almost universal human way to explain the world around us. Of course at
this point in time it's not perfect and may never be, it can always be
improved and updated, but at least it has a set of rules that have to
proven, before it can be accepted. It also allows anyone to question it and
try to improve upon it. Religion promotes the idea of blind faith (i.e.
there's no proof, it sounds pretty unlikely, so you just have to believe
it).

You take any of chapters in the Bible and you will see all the
contradictions, for example:

In Genesis, "God saw all that he had made-and it was very good" - Hmm, isn't
God omnipotent and all powerful, how can he have a concept of good, that
means he must have a concept of bad, meaning he makes mistakes, meaning he
isn't a God.

You will also see in Genesis, that it's actually 2 books merged, so in one
chapter they have the order of creation different to the next chapter.

Friday afternoon rant.
