The post by Gilles has reminded me ... Does anyone know of a good UPS
solution for the 3000/957? HP tells me that since the 957 has an internal
battery, the HP PowerTrust UPS and importantly the HP PowerTrust UPS
Monitor software doesn't offer any intelligence for a graceful system
shutdown. Purchasing the HP UPS (for a 957, anyway), supposedly offers no
particular advantage over a UPS available from any other supplier. Any
words of wisdom out there on the topic? TIA.

<<HP has some propriatery firmware which provides powerfail protection for
<<some of their drives. I believe the newer models of their disk drives do
<<not
<<include this feature and HP is now recommending UPS systems for the
<<necessary added protection no longer afforded by their newer drives -

<<
<<Yes and no. It will provide the necessary protection in the event that
<<the
<<system can be gracefully shut down before the UPS power is exhausted
<<(which
<<could be a soon as 10-20 minutes, dpending upon the load and the actual
<<UPS
<<model). In the event that a graceful system shutdown cannot be effected,
<<pressumeably there could be some data corruption. I am actually doing
<<some
<<experiments in this regard, but I won't be able to share any results
<<very
<<soon.
