But with CDROM this does NOT mean 7 hours of system downtime!

This is because HPINSTAL allows to perform the majority of the
update/update-with-powerpatch work (Phase I) as a plain session
with other users on the system. Only Phase II (basically an
update plus restore from the CSLT created during Phase I) needs
to be done with exclusive system access.

Furthermore it is not a "must" to perform Phase II immediately
after Phase I. You could -for example- perform Phase I on friday
morning and Phase II on saturday after the full backup was done.

This is really different from the tape/DDS based AUTOINST.
