I'm not sure what's changed here.  I was under the impression that SAP ran
with SYBASE all along. Addionally, it already runs using Oracle or DB2 which
allows it to run on Windows, various UNIX's and Linux. Moreover, SAP has its
own open-source database called SAPDB or MAXDB (if you get it through the
MySQL people)and users are free to choose that as well.

There is obviously something new in this announcement but what it is is not
obvious to me.
