Over the past 6 months or so the network guys have been making changes to our network and changing IP addresses. So, with the help of a few who have replied to me offline (thanks!), I discovered that I've got some duplicate IP addresses returning in cache. When I try to do the delname command under the cache option in nettool, it deletes them, but later they return. Here's just a quick example:
on the N4000 in cache:

    HP997.firstcare.com
      In network directory
      10.103.105.10
          same IP: enterprise.firstcare.com
          same IP: ftp.firstcare.com
same IP: N4000.firstcare.com (btw - this is the correct IP address for this server)

    HP969.firstcare.com
     In cache
      10.103.105.11
          same IP: HP969.firstcare.com
    HP969.firstcare.com
     In network directory
      10.103.105.11
          same IP: HP969.firstcare.com

then it shows some duplicate IP address entries.... some of which returned old addresses that were updated a few months ago. Hosts.net is clean and all my nmmgr IP addresses are clean. In the above example, I deleted enterprise, ftp and N4000, but they keep coming back.

How is the HP3k getting a return on an invalid IP address? The old addresses do not ping from a command prompt, so I'm thinking this is still stored on the system somewhere? If I delete the entry from cache, how does it come back? I sent an email to the DNS guys, but they will tell me it's on my side (network guys always think they have their stuff together).

thanks again for all the responses so far and for anyone else who would like to provide some input.

The HP stores the path to some machines for a quick response. If IP
address has changed the HP might still be sending the packets to the old
address.

GO into nettools down in map's (I can't remember the path) and clear all
the history.

Sorry been a while.

Subject: [HP3000-L] problem with remote command

We have 3 HP3000 servers: Dev, Prod and DR. I can remote from Prod to
Dev and DR, but Dev cannot remote back to Prod. In fact, Dev cannot
remote to either system. DR can remote to both. Hosts.net has all the
correct IP addresses for all 3 systems, including the correct DNS names.
DR is on a seperate gateway, although I doubt that's the problem. Could
it be some setting in nettools? I've also checked NMMGR for settings on
the gateway and they are all good. We can get sessions to work if we go
directly to the box, it's just the remote function that's giving me
fits.

If someone has a quick idea, you can call and maybe we can talk through
it. Otherwise, I can check mail periodically.

TIA!
