I am not a disc performance expert, but I do know that on an HP 3000
(979KS/200) connected to an AutoRAID and DLT-8000, we get backup performance
of 3,97 MB/sec (with data compression). HP rates the DLT-8000 as 6.0 MB/sec
without data compression.
I think the AutoRAID is to blame. What happens if you only backup from disks
other than the AutoRAID?

Subject: Backup Performance problem on HP-UX machine.
I have one HP-9000 L-Class 3000 server with ver 11.00, with RAM 1 G.B and
one Autoraid Box. I have connected one Ultirum-230 tape drive which can
store 200 GB data in one tape. The tape performance as per HP is 30 MB per
sec.
If I am using tar command for backup I am getting 5 MB per second
performance.
If I am using dd command then I am getting 3 MB per per seconds.
