Robert,
(1) there is s.th. wrong in the security for this (and other) files I suppose.
you should perform a chmod.hpbin.sys "755 /etc/profile"
If you want to change the defaults it's wise to use /etc/profile.local (add-on
in 6.0)
(2) smbd.samba.sys -? will create an error but show the version!
[28] XEBHH2:smbd.samba.sys -?
SMBD.SAMBA.SYS: Unknown option -?
Usage: SMBD.SAMBA.SYS [-D] [-p port] [-d debuglevel] [-l log basename] [-s servi
ces file]
Version 1.9.16p9
-D become a daemon
-p port listen on the specified port
-d debuglevel set the debuglevel
-l log basename. Basename for log/debug files
-s services file. Filename of services file
-P passive only
-a overwrite log file, don't append
The official way is of course /SAMBA/PUB/bin/smbstatus:
[33] XEBHH2:/SAMBA/PUB/bin/smbstatus
Samba version 1.9.16p9
Service uid gid pid machine

HPInstant USER.SAMBA SAMBA 3211519 krugj

(3) You may refer to the documents in hp.docs.com (especially
http://docs.hp.com:80/dynaweb/smpe/b1015/b975/@Generic__BookTextView/17236 ), or
jazz.external.hp.com (e.g. http://jazz.external.hp.com/src/samba/index.html ),
and an article I wrote for the HP3000 Newswire as example how to share Instant
Information over your LAN using Samba/iX (
http://www.hillschmidt.de/gbr/sharinginstant-9910.html )
Hope that will help, best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC, Germany

Subject: [HP3000-L] Questions from a Posix/Samba newbie
Hi all,
We have recently moved to a new 979KS, running MPE/iX 6.0, and I've been
given that task of setting up Samba.
1) When I run the Posix shell (xeq sh.hpbin.sys -L) I get 'cannot open
script "ect/profile": Permission denied'. It only works if I logon as system
manager.
2) How do I find out what version of Samba is installed on our system and if
there is a better version where do I get from?
3) Is there a 'Samba For Dummies' type document/guide/etc available? We
don't want to do anything fancy.
Regards,
