I can think of two possible methods of accomplishing this without mpex,
however they are not without limitations:

  * Use the posix "grep" function to look for that filecode as part of the
listf,2 style output (or 3?)  Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure that
these formats specify ALL filecodes (and not all of them are mapped to
mnemonics).  Also, while mode 2 has the "code" on the same line as the
"filename", it is just the "filename" portion only -- it won't be qualified
with group or account.  For mode 3 I'm not sure if the "filename" appears on
the same line of output as the file "code"...

  * Does "listFILE" support a more invovled selection process?  (i.e.,
"seleq=..."?)  If so, I suspect this will solve your problem...
