Hi Adam,
for getting started with the programming environment on the HP 3000
I have found the following manual pretty useful:
Getting Started as an MPE/iX Programmer
Programmer's Guide (HP Part No. 32650-90008)
It gives a quick intro about logon, account structure, editors, how to
compile, link and run etc. It does not teach about programming or system
management i.e. configuring etc.
Depending on the specific language you will be using, there should also
be a Reference Manual plus Programmer's Guide, the latter giving tips on
issues like file handling, subroutines, intrinsics etc. whereas the former
usually defining the available language features, compiler options etc.
I frequently found the first few chapters of the Reference Manual useful
for getting in touch with a new language whereas the Programmer's Guide
gives nice examples how to perform certain tasks (although many times the
examples contain bugs... finding them is painful or else educational ;-)
If you have access to the CDROM documentation (LaserROM) you have them all.
Cheers,
Lars "iX" Appel
Oops! Some of the (useful) manuals re Posix Shell und Utilities and c89
might be not on the LaserROM CDs :-( but you can find the part numbers in
either the latest Communicator/3000 (kind of Release Notes for each MPE
version) or else the MPE/iX Documentation Guide (P/N 32650-90144).
