Besides FTP?

We're having quite a bad time with Quest's NFS lately. File copies from
one machine (our trusty 997-300 v 6.5 PP2) to another (rs6000 AIX v4.33)
are failing on an increasingly frequent basis. The network is Ethernet
TCP/IP.

The most frequent error message I get is:

cp: Error copying file /AIH/TEMPDATA/BCF00114 to
/AIH/mhpdata/amisys/x12_837_cou
nt/in/regrege_040703.001: Implementation-defined error

I've also gotten:

nfs client: openlog: HPFOPEN error for "$NFSLOG.NFSDATA.NETBASE$" of
-247/143
04/02/103 05:18:44.3 $1c9024e vnodeLRUget: releasing idxVnode - release
idxP
A component of the pathname "!" does not exist. (CIERR 9039)

The most frightening occurrence recently was no message at all. The
file was only partially copied to the target machine! It's only happened
once and I sincerely hope that was an anomaly.

Quest is taking a look at our difficulties, but this product is off
support and they won't be making any heroic efforts to fix the product
(if it's even a problem with the product!).

We moved from FTP to NFS several years ago in an effort to eliminate
problems we were having with FTP at the time: Files not being copied
when FTP "said" they were and incomplete copies. I've seen the
semi-recent thread on checking/validating file transfers and I have no
problem going back to using FTP if I have to. I'd rather not, since it's
more work for me :)

Back to my original question: What is there besides FTP and NFS to
copy/move files from our hp to our rs6000?

TIA,
