I had believed earlier reports that not much would happen in DOJ vs. MS
until Dr. Lessig finishes his study of the situation, due the end of May.
However, reports at
<http://www.news.com/News/Item/0,4,17370,00.html>
and <http://www.sjmercury.com/columnists/gillmor/docs/dg121697.htm>
indicate that MS appears to be playing games (my words) with the
preliminary injunction. From Mr. Gillmor:
"So Microsoft, which is appealing the order, says it'll offer
manufacturers three choices: the current Windows, including IE;
a two-year-old version; or a version of the current operating
system that omits the IE files but also won't operate properly.
Oh, and the price will be the same no matter which option the
manufacturer picks."
In response, according to
<http://www.news.com/News/Item/0,4,17468,00.html>
is that
'The Justice Department asked a federal judge to hold Microsoft
in "civil contempt" for violating a court order that barred the
software giant from tying Windows 95 to its Internet Web browser.'
For those who are interested.... For others, apologies for the waste of
bandwidth.
