Throw away this obsolete version of Perl and either obtain 5.002 that is
bundled with gcc on http://jazz.external.hp.com, or get 5.003 from
ftp://ftp.orbitsw.com/pub/perl5.003.mov.gz. [...]46_12Feb199715:24:[log in to unmask]

Lund Performance Solutions is pleased to announce that we will be
sponsoring a "freeware" tape to be distributed at IPROF '97.

Q) What will be on the tape?
A) Currently, we plan to have two accounts on the tape "FREEWARE" and
"DEMOS".

The FREEWARE account will include some or all of the
following (and maybe more): Java, Samba, GNU (C++, tools, etc.), the
Apache web server, the NCSA web server, the freeware version of 3K's
Netmail, and ???

(The FREEWARE account will also include LZW, MOVER, and GZIP.)

The DEMOS account will include demo software submitted by members of
SIGSOFTVEND (unless the tape fills up with FREEWARE).

Q) How can I get the tape if I don't go to IPROF?
A) Two ways: first, you'll be able to download it from the 3K
webserver (thanks, 3K); second, after IPROF we'll make the tapes
available for the cost of shipping and materials (I'll post details
after IPROF).

We hope this will help those of you who have wanted to try out some
of these tools, but didn't have a fast enough Internet connection to
download them.

Q) How can I contribute? What should I contribute.
A) The "submission" deadline is Tuesday, 18-FEB-97. Email me
instructions on how to download your contribution. We're really
looking for POSIX-related stuff, especially interesting things ported
from other systems. This isn't really a traditional Interex Swap
Tape.

Q) Who do I call if I have problems with the tape?
A) Not me, that's for sure! Well, if it's an unreadable tape or
something, we'll be glad to help. But for assistance on installation
or use of the FREEWARE products, you'll have to either contact the
author/contributor, or post to HP3000-L.

Of course, if you have any questions about the demo version of the
Lund Performance Solutions products, we're always here to help!

Q) How long are the demos good for?
A) That's up to the individual companies. For the LPS demos, they
won't run at all until you call us for a validation.

NONE OF THE FREEWARE WILL REQUIRE A VALIDATION FROM ANYONE, AND WE
WILL NOT BE ASKING FOR BUSINESS CARDS OR CONTACT INFO IN EXCHANGE FOR
THE TAPES.

If you have any questions, go ahead an email me, but keep in mind
that I've got a lot to do before IPROF to make this all come
together. (Most of the hard work is being done by the contributors,
though, so save your thanks for them after you get your tape!)

We're glad for the chance to provide this service, and want to make
it as high-quality as we can.

Thanks!
