Balloting is closed (the interview is in two hours, and I want to look over
these comments for inclusion)...

Here are the results - Total Responses = 20 (thank you!)

1 - What stage are you with Samba/iX? (20 responses)
No plans at this time - 3
Do not intend on installing - ZERO
Intend on installing at a later time - 2
In the process of installing it - 4
  Installed and testing - 5
Installed and in production (being used) - 6

2 - Do you foresee Samba/iX becoming part of your environment? (20
responses)
  Yes - Development or Crash-n-Burn machine only - 5
  Yes - No Restrictions - 12
  No - 3

3 - Would you prefer (and purchase) a "supported" product over Samba/iX
either from HP and/or a third party? (19 responses)
  Yes, HP Only - 1
Yes, HP or a third party - 7
  No - 11

(Note that comments in this area were mostly "if the price were right" and
were non-commital as to whether HP or a third party would be desirable)

4 - How would you rate the ease of installation? (15 responses)
Lots of problems, it's still not fully working - 3
Lots of problems, but it's now fully working - 2
Some problems, fully working - 7
  No problems - 3

5 - If #4 was "Lots of problems, it;s still not working", what isn't working
that you know should be?

"Win NT side still causes the most problems - unable to see in Net
Neighborhood except on days with odd number letters - unable to get user.map
working - user/pass on NT is prompted but then rejected - even after the
registry change"

"Problems for 2 months, and using 5.5 with PP2 - still cannot get working"

"Having problems with secured shares"

Various 5.0/PP2+ (not PP6) issues

6 - Other additional comments

The following needs to be added to Samba/iX and/or MPE in order to get a
smooth production environment setup:
   - Windows compatible password encryption (Samba)
   - Support fgor the TCP_NODELAY socket option for increased throughput
(MPE)
   - Support for packet sized greater than 32K for increased throughput
(MPE)

Wishlist
   - HP3000 Tape device support
   - HP3000 CD-ROM devices
   - smbtar support

It's a wonderful product! As Microsoft continues to 'take over the world',
it is nice to be able to at least take their language with the 3000's

Other comments regarding configuration or relating to the problems above...

The overall response is that it's a great product (job well done, Lars!),
that people are going to use it for the most part, however, setup needs to
be streamlined to solve several of the install problems (such as the
"missing HFS path for 'local'").

It;s also clear from some of the responses (which needed to be paraphrased
here for brevity), that HFS knowledge is needed to really administer
Samba/iX, however, people who are not knowledgable seem to be investing the
time in acquiring that knowledge.

Thanks again to all who responded. I think that I speak for Michael and
Lars as well, that we appreciate your time to respond to this survey. We
may have another in about 6 months, but we'll make that one web-based - it's
easier that way as we can capture the data to an Image database directly
(see the SIGWeb survey - guess where your responses go? Let's say it ain't
a text file, and it ain't an Access database <g>)

Best regards, and thanks again.

Joe
