I do not believe the problem is with a virus, but one is never sure of such
things.
However, the original message neglected to mention one thing. Does the
computer in fact show the proper "It is now safe to shutdown your computer."
At any rate, there are two conditions that cause Scandisk to run on startup.
1- If the shutdown was not clean 2- If disk errors were detected before the
prior shutdown. These conditions are set in VFAT when the system is running
and cleared by ScanDisk.
If you insist that you get a clean shutdown, then I would do a thorough check
of the disk drive, very thorough. You may have a bad disk.

If you use AOL you may have the PWSteal.Trojan virus. This will also prevent
your machine from shutting down correctly. We have several users who have been
