First of all, I have both an HP Jornada and a Visor (PalmOS). Both have
advantages, which is why I hang on to both.

The advantage to the pilot is that, apart from multimedia, it can do just
about anything the PPC can do... and it's cheaper, smaller, more rugged,
and the batteries last about four times as long (my Jornada craps out at
5-6 hours on minimal brightness... not quite long enough to read a novel
comfortably... and my Visor runs 12-29 hours depending on whether I use
the serial port a lot).

The disadvantage is that programs that are inherently stateful are
inconvenient to use. Most programs can save and restore state in a fraction
of a second, so it feels like you're multitasking when you switch from one
program to another, but things like terminal programs block all other use,
effectively, and programs with big databases like maps take 5-10 seconds
to come up.
