I foolishly volunteered to create a Word template for a friend to turn a
simple pre-printed form into a fill-in-the-blank template. And I'm
stuck on what should be a simple thing.

The form is very basic, e.g.:

Name: ________________________ Event __________________ Date ________

It seems no matter how I define the template, when you type in the
underlined fields (set to underline and tabbed accordingly) it just
pushes everything to the right.

I tried the web-style text box, but it draws a 4 character box that
I can't seem to change the size of (it stays fixed width, too small,
no matter what the "max chars" property is set to).

The main part of the form is a table, which works like a charm. But
the heading lines (like above) have me stumped. I've searched the
online help, the web help, and don't have the Word for Dummies book :-)

What's the secret incantation?

Jeff (don't laugh too long)
