For DDS tapes we just use FCOPY. We put the source tape on another box
on the net.
Then open a DSLINE to that box.
Then
   FILE TAPEIN;DEV=remotebox#TAPE;rec=8192,1,u,ascii;nobuf
   FILE TAPEOUT;DEV=TAPE;rec=8192,1,u,ascii;nobuf
   FCOPY FROM=*TAPEIN;TO=*TAPEOUT;FILES=ALL

Then wait until we get error 143 (EOF) twice in a row with no more
screen output.
Then control-y, re-mount tape (use ONLINE from Allegro), and
VALIDATE.PUBXL.TELESUP (if CM tape)
or VSTORE (if NM tape).
