Jerry Fochtman rants,
<--- big snip --->
I do not know Jerry personally, but I know of him. I have always held him in
high regard because of the many hours he has given to Interex and the HP
3000 community over a period of many years. So I was stunned at what I
perceive as a personal attack on me (and an unnamed consultant) - I know who
it is, but he can name himself if he chooses. An attack that is full of
innuendo and half-truths.
I am not sure what set Jerry off, but as I said earlier, my session plug was
SUPPOSED to be tongue-in-cheek; and, it was properly coded as OT and PLUG.
I've also plugged SIG MPE at least as often as my session. I think I even
pointed out at some point that SIG MPE was given a primo slot Wednesday
afternoon, smack dab in the middle of the conference.
In a posting July 7 to HP3000-L, I recognized the hard work and thankless
job that it is being an Interex volunteer - especially this year. On July
11, Greg Cagle, at least partly at my private urging, wrote a long posting
describing some of the differences in HPWorld and how Interex's role has
changed significantly. On July 9 I wrote praising the personal scheduler
that Greg later pointed out came from the Compaq/ETS people.
I am not just someone sitting on the sidelines whining about everything. I
have been Chair or Co-Chair of SIG MPE since well before the 11/14/2001
announcement. I am Vice-Chair of the MPE Forum. I have given A LOT of free
advice to people either over HP3000-L, or, sometimes in private responses.
But I am also not bashful about stating my opinion on subjects meaningful to
what I call the MPE-IMAGE community. I also religiously stay out of the
religion (in all aspects) threads ;-) That's a joke, get it?
However, that said, I'm going to take the high road suggested by my friend
Chuck Ciesinski and not publicly reply to Jerry point-by-point. Perhaps this
will put an end to the bickering. I would be more than happy to buy Jerry a
drink next week to see if we can avoid burying the hatchet in each other.
John Burke
