I'll have a go on this one, since we have managed to set up a remote DTC
using RAFCP. I'm no expert on these matters though...
The idea behind the setup (as I understand it) is that a front-end DTC
(FEDTC) is used to pack/unpack the AFCP-traffic from/to IP-packages on the
net. It talks with the 3k and transmits/recieves to the net. On the
remote-end the RDTC does the same thing for the remote users (i.e.
pack/unpack).

<first question snipped, since I have no idea>

The manual states the remote DTC must be one of "DTC72, DTC16MX, DTC16
(which is the one we use), or DTC48 whith memory extension", the
requirements on the FEDTC is higher: DTC72 or DTC16MX. I don't think there's
anything special about routers, BUT you need DNS, and extra
DNS-configuration for this to work (i.e. a few special DNS-entries for the
DTCs to recognise each other).

The RDTC needs to be configured in NMMGR (to be recognised by the 3k) but
the download must come from an OV-DTC-manager equipped machine 'close' to
the RDTC (I'm not sure what I mean with 'close', but I think that if they're
not on the same segment, the download must be bridged, (I'm really far out
on a limb here)). On 5.0 you also need an OV-DTC-manager on the host-side to
tell the FEDTC to turn on RAFCP (not sure about 5.5).

hope this makes sense and assists you. Feel free to contact me if it doesn't
(or you want to know more about our setup). Most of this info can be found
in the OpenViewDTCManager-manual (chapter 18 - Configuring for remote
connections .....).
