In case this touched on my comments on TPC-C, I wanted to clarify that I did
in fact mean using Image, not Oracle.

One of my hopes is that as IT evolves and becomes more transparent, like
electricity and room lighting, is that the business decision-makers will
quit trying to second guess "engineering" and start talking to us only in
terms of business results. So for example, when they ask about uptime,
availability, and response on a web presence, they really don't want to hear
about our backups and how they work with our databases, they just want to
know what the customers will see, when. Should that really happen, and
happen soon, so long as we deliver results, no one else will care what tools
we are using to do our jobs, any more than most of us know how our drinking
water is purified, no more than I know about the car I drive and the gas I
put in it (and I still pull up on the wrong side of the gas pump from time
to time - I don't know much at all about my car).

I want to provide these businessmen with a number, a TPC benchmark, just the
same as I can get for my car its MPG and cost.

Now, the above is not a perfect example. I can tell you what brand car I
drive. And I know the 3000 has some issues with high availability and online
backups (which issues are addressed by some excellent and reputable
vendors). And while most everyone understands MPG and dollars (or euros
or...), we might have to briefly explain TPC benchmarks.

I just want people who don't help admin my 3000s to quit worrying that they
are 3000s, but worry about what they do, and respect them and me for that.
And I want that experience for all of us.

<snip>
Comparisons of Oracle on HP-UX and MPEiX for TPC's is probably a dead issue
if Oracle does decertify the HP e3000.

Comparing transaction rates for HP-UX/Oracle and MPEiX/TurboImage would be
interesting, but I'm not sure that the IS V.P. would accept a comparison...
