HPe3k (32 lines)
Hello Kimber Renk,

Re: HPe3k & OSPF

+--------------------------------------------------Kimber Renk writes--+
I am being asked to respond to a questionnaire concerning network
routing and the HPe3000. Specifically, supporting RIP or OSPF (Open
Shortest Path First). Any updates concerning the support of these on
the HPe3000? I know that RIP is not supported but unsure about OSPF.
Thanks in advance - Kimber Renk

Jam'e's says no, sorry, the HPe3000 does not support RIP or OSPF
routing protocols. The HPe3000 (it took me the longest time to type
MPE/iX with a lower case 'i', this lower case 'e' is killing me) does
all of it's routing with Internet Control Message Protocol "ICMP".

If you are not familiar with ICMP, you can find more info in the COMER
Inter-networking with TCP/IP Vol I (third edition) pg 123.

Most of the industry standard (Cisco and others) router vendors are
capable of communicating to the HPe3000 with ICMP.

I hope this helps.
