Yes, folks, it's true: There's a new company out there!
On official letterhead from Hewlett-Packard dated December 2000 is the following:
"Dear Hewlett-Packard Customer:
In order to assist you with your future Hewlett-Packard 3000 systems planning Hewlett-Packrad would like to inform you of our plans to discontinue MPE/iX 5.5."
I'm somewhat dyslexic and had to look at "Hewlett-Packrad" a couple of times--but it really is "Hewlett-Packrad".
And it's a great new idea, with a great new name!
We've often thought that the HP 3000 was "rad", and now it's official!
Couple things though.
1) This letter went out to thousands of customers of Hewlett-Packard (soon to be named Hewlett-Packrad, no doubt--or maybe it's a spin-off division or company), and it is my belief that it should really be "Hewlett-PackRad". Yes! Capitalize the "Rad" part so it really sticks out! And we really would have appreciated an announcement about Hewlett-Packrad! Next time, give us, your loyal customers an advance!
2) Bee very carefull about misssprints. It cud halve ben ann disastar iff somebooty acsidentallee sant outt:
"Dear Hewlett-Packard Customer:
In order to assist you with your future Hewlett-Packard 3000 systems planning Hewlett-Packrat would like to inform you of our plans to discontinue MPE/iX 5.5."
Best Regards,
Douglas Baker
