Background:

As most of you know, I have been a full-time consultant for a Navy base here
in Washington state for the last several years (realizing that "full-time
consultant" is something of an oxymoron). To no one's great surprise, the
shrinking Defense budget has finally caught up with us, and the base can no
longer afford my services. So, as of the end of this week, I will become,
shall we say, much more available than I have been in recent years.

Request:

For reasons that all of us know, I would very much like to keep the HP3000
as a significant part of my activities. However, to do that, I need to know
where they are. Since I doubt that I'll be able to convince Winston Prather
or Sue Bennett to give me a printout of the HP3000 or the RAPID installed
bases, I'm hoping that those of you out there in 3000-land can help. I'd
like to identify some reasonable number of HP3000 sites, particularly those
that rely on products like Transact/iX and C/iX, so that I can make myself
available to them. I suspect that I'll be doing quite a bit of commuting
(tele- or otherwise) after this transition, so I don't see an advantage to
restricting the candidate sites to any particular location.

If you know of an HP3000 site that might have use for my services, I'll be
very grateful for that info, as well as for any other pointers, leads, or
suggestions you may have. FWIW, I'm not particularly looking for a permanent
W-2 position, though I will of course consider the option.

Since this is strictly a personal issue, I suggest that responses be sent
via electronic mail only. And, since my remaining tenure on the mail server
here is likely to be brief, please use the following address:

Thanks much.
